European Standards at CEN

The European Committee for Standardization (CEN), headquartered in Brussels, takes its acronym from the French name Comité Européen de Normalisation. CEN is responsible for developing European Standards (EN), Technical Specifications (CEN/TS), and Technical Reports (CEN/TR), with the exception of standards for electrical engineering. The members of the European Committee for Standardization are the national standardization organizations of EU/EEA countries.  CEN members are required to vote on all newly drafted documents and may participate in the work of technical committees and subcommittees. They must incorporate each newly published EN into their national standards, typically within 6 months of its publication, and withdraw national standards that conflict with it.
